Long time ago, there was a place called swamp of slumber, used by the people to throw animal corpses. Near the swamp lived a farmer called Zoroku; he wasnt very smart. One day he got a rare disease. There are at least three collections of Hino's stories that were published under the title "Zoroku's Strange Disease" over the years, all of them containing a different mix of stories to accompany the title story. This translation is based on the 1976 edition by Hibari Comics and includes the stories "Underwater", "The Newborn Rat" and "The 1000 Pound Demon" in addition to "Zoroku's Strange Disease", obviously. "Zoroku's Strange Disease" has been previously published in English in a collection called "Lullabies from He**" (Dark Horse Comics, 2006) but I am fairly sure the other stories haven't been translated before.

Six fantastic tales from classic Japanese literature as interpreted by horror manga master Hideshi Hino. The narrative power of these tales, and in particular the frightening scenery of Rashomon, has inspired, and continues to inspire, artists from the most diverse disciplines of art such as the celebrated writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa and the great director Akira Kurosawa. "The Demon of Rashomon" represents one of the pinnacles of auteur manga capable of combining two seemingly irreconcilable elements: the formal sophistication of traditional Japanese storytelling and the violence of the horror genre.
A collection of six stories from master of horror Hideshi Hino. In the first story, "Unusual Fetus: My Baby", a horror writer jokes with his pregnant wife about her giving birth to a baby lizard, much to her annoyance. But his joke ends up coming true and alizard baby is born. The writer is horrified and tries to get rid of it, but his wife insists on raising it. From there, an unfortunate and bizarre story begins. The second story, "Flower of Flesh and Blood", was turned into a direct-to-video film in the Guinea Pig series of movies with Hideshi Hino himself directing. American actor Charlie Sheen one day saw a copy of this film on VHS and contacted the FBI, believing it to be a genuine snuff film...Contains stories of tragedies and dark comedy.
In "The Apocalypse Banquet", horror creeps into the everyday: eight nightmarish tales in which psychosis becomes increasingly symbolic and pervasive. However, Hideshi Hino does not limit himself to shocking the reader. Each story starkly highlights man's cruelty towards those who are "different". Tales of mutation in which gruesome metamorphosis becomes an act of purification from a society that rejects any and all "abnormality."

A man washed up on an unknown, isolated island has lost his memory. Giant creatures roam around, ruthlessly devouring their prey. Suddenly, the man trembles in fear and discovers an extremely high castle wall. He expected to see signs of civilization and humans, but a large number of corpses were dumped from the top of the castle wall, refusing to come. As the man secretly watched the situation on the castle wall, he began to feel a strong desire to go to the other side of the wall. What will happen on the other side of this high wall, and what will be the fate of this man? One of Hideshi Hino's masterpieces, painted in 1972. The fantastical world view that makes you feel color in monochrome gradually pulls the reader away from reality. You too will get lost in a mysterious space along with the main character. Recreate the original cover from the first edition as much as possible. Includes many other masterpieces.
